Breaking the Rules
When you have sunny Summer weather and only 30 minutes to shoot Miss Clay Mallory Cassidy, what do you do?? You hang out on Second Street in Portsmouth!
With so many old buildings, unique shops, and freshly renovated locations, it’s a great place for a quick mini session! As we strolled the street, we came across the renovated patio area at 535 Second Street. So we popped in and shot some pictures for a few minutes. Mallory did a fantastic job, and then we headed off down the street to finish the session.
After we’re done, I go through the images on my computer and post a few to social media. No big deal.
And that’s when I found out I was in trouble!
Only a few minutes after posting, I got a message from the property owners letting me know that people are not allowed to stand or sit on the tables at that venue. Yikes! We hadn’t thought anything of it while we were shooting - the girls I work with end up posing on all kinds of things - so we certainly didn’t mean to overstep. I appreciate Main Street Portsmouth reaching out to let us know. I shoot all over, in a variety of locations, and my goal is always to leave no trace - I want to leave the location as we found it.
So next time, no standing on the tables. ;)

Beauty in Sh*tty Locations
If there’s anything that’s been consistent this Summer is that the weather is consistently unpredictable.
And that’s just the case recently.
As the shoot starts, sunshine and warm. Within just a few minutes, storms roll in and the skies unleash. My nice sunny shoot took a turn for needing to reschedule. So we’re heading back to the cars when I see the lavender bushes at the edge of the parking lot.

So the moral of the story is there’s beauty all around us…even in some pretty sh*tty locations. You just have to see it and know how to catch it!

What do you do when you want a change of scenery and have one of the most perfect models to work with?
Go to Cincinnati of course!
Downtown and OTR have some amazing spots to shoot pictures. Lots of character, lots of history. It’s just an all around fun place to spend the day shooting senior and/or modeling pictures!
So a little while back, Sophia and I got the opportunity to head over to Cincinnati and spend several hours wandering the streets and shops, shooting lots of pictures! Pulling my gear around in my little blue beach wagon (iykyk), squeaky wheeling it down the sidewalk, stumbling across cool little areas. Set up, shoot, move on. I probably could have spent literally the whole day walking the streets just shooting, but my blood sugar eventually bottomed out so…
But I had a TON of images to look through! So check out highlights from this session with Sophia in Cincinnati!

Back toward the end of April, I ran a contest for 2024 Seniors to enter to winner a complimentary 1-Hour Modeling Portfolio Session with me!
I was absolutely blown away by the number of entries! So after a week of entries and a random drawing, we had our winner: Marissa Mogan of Clay High School!
Thank you to everyone who entered! I know it’s only the first week of June and the start of the new school year is probably the last thing on your mind. But now is the perfect time to schedule your sessions. Summertime is an oft-overlooked season in Ohio - mostly because it can get pretty hot at times - but now that it’s green and lush outside, it’s a perfect backdrop to some amazing pictures.
After a few weather delays, we were able to get everything set up and shoot! And despite the sweltering heat that day, we were able to have a fun time and get some awesome shots!
What's a Modeling Portfolio Session? And how is it different from a Senior Picture Session?
Modeling Portfolio Sessions are 1 or 2-hour sessions geared towards building your modeling portfolio. They are designed to give you material to post on social and attract (or submit to) modeling agents. They tend to be a little more fashion posey and are primarily at my direction. Modeling Portfolio Sessions are perfect for creating highly stylized fashion images or just quick images for social.
On the other hand, Senior Sessions are 2 or 3-hour sessions and are created around telling the story of you and celebrating you at this point in your life. With senior sessions, you and I collaborate to create an experience that yields images you and your parents will love for years to come. Senior sessions are all about you. From the photoshoot to the finished images to the print products, Senior Sessions are an experience meant to last a lifetime.
